The Obamas Are Flying Out of DC and Straight to This Palm Springs Vacation House

Shortly after the presidency transfers to Donald Trump on Friday, the Obama family will embark on their first real vacation in eight years. No reporters, aides, or responsibilities, just golf and family time in sunny Palm Springs, CA. "The president vowed to take his family to a destination that is warmer than Washington, and Palm Springs fits the bill. He and his family have enjoyed the time they spent there in the past, and they're looking forward to traveling there on Friday," Josh Earnest, White House press secretary, told the press days before the inauguration.
When in Palm Springs, the former first family stays in the stunning 11,000-square-foot Rancho Mirage home of Ambassador James Costos and White House interior designer Michael S. Smith. The couple renovated the '70s, Mayan-inspired property, dubbed "Ichpa Mayapan," imbuing the glass and stucco home with every modern luxury amenity. From the dramatic exterior with its keystone-shaped pool and hand-carved Mayan calendar to the inimitable interiors, which feature travertine flooring and an earthy neutral color palette, this house cannot be missed. Check out a couple of highlights ahead and then visit Architectural Digestto learn more about the property and see the complete home tour.
