It's safe to say most of us were pretty shocked when we heard the news that Angelina Jolie had filed for divorce from her husband of two years, Brad Pitt.
After a fairly bumpy to the start of their relationship (Team Jen, anyone?), the beautiful couple soon secured their joint place in the hearts of the whole world, appearing united as they grew their family with both adopted and birth children.
When the couple married in France in August 2014, with Angelina walking down the aisle wearing a dress adorned in the drawings of the couple's six children, everyone was chuffed for them.
But today, all that came crashing down after Angelina's lawyer, Laura Wasser, confirmed the news that the Girl, Interrupted actress had put the proceedings in place to split from the Brange to her Lina. So what went wrong?
Well as it stands, there are a few theories flying about; some including a 'third party' (read: other women), and some not. Some are just pretty hilarious and probably the furthest you could be from any semblance of truth but were worth a mention anyway.
TMZ, who broke the news on the world stage that the golden couple were soon to be no more, very firmly state that "there was no alleged 'third person'". Given their source is straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak, coming from the divorce lawyer involved, you'd think that would be the most reliable information.
But having said that, all this really means is that TMZ has been given the story Angelina wants the world to hear; it doesn't necessarily mean it's the actual truth.
Instead, TMZ states that Angelina's decision to divorce was "solely over Brad's interaction with their children" which sounds pretty darn mysterious to us. Citing 'irreconciable differences' as the reason for the divorce, apparently Ange had issues with the way her husband was parenting the children. But - DIRECT QUOTE - TMZ say she was "extremely upset with his methods". What the bloody hell does that mean?
So that's one avenue.
Another, which Radar Online has noted, is that the couple has been experiencing troubles for quite some time. They reported back in June that sources led them to believe the seemingly perfect pair were actually arguing continuously about "overspending". Is it just me that reckons paying the bills at the end of the month is the least of this family's worries?
But as was reported by the US version of OK! Magazine, "for a while, the excitement of getting married masked their troubles, but lately, they've been having explosive fights. Neither of them is sure that they can or should, hang on anymore."
Other publications are off down a completely different route, though. The 'third party' route. Granted, these claims are completely unverified, but I guess we'll see in time if there's any substance to them.
Russian news site Pravda Report has thrown it straight out there and suggested the divorce was down to Brad's undeniable chemistry with Allied co-star, French actress Marion Cotillard.
And Page 6's report correlates with that theory. Speculating that the divorce has come as a result of Brad Pitt's "midlife crisis", which apparently has not only led him to have an affair with 40-year-old Cotillard (this is all still guesswork, remember), but has also led him into the arms of "Russian hookers" too. Blimey.
The site continues with bold claims that Ange hired a private investigator to catch her husband out, only to find out that he had been "cosying up to his 'Allied' co-star Marion Cotillard" while filming the World War II drama in London.
Plus, Page 6 theorises, the formerly strong couple began to crumble with Angelina's desire to step back from Hollywood to concentrate on her humanitarian work with the UN.
"The older she gets, the more serious she becomes, and she is sick of the Hollywood thing," a source apparently says.
And then there's the downright ridiculous; this one put out there by Morning News USA a whole DAY before the official divorce announcement (Mystic Meg eat your heart out). They reckon that Gwyneth Paltrow is the cause of the divorce. Yeah, as in, Brad's ex girlfriend who he split from in 1998. Er, right then.
The details are the best bit, though. According to this really reliable report, Brad recently said in his sleep 'Gwyn, let me sleep a few more minutes' and - again, DIRECT QUOTE - "Angelina was angry". So angry she wanted a divorce, it seems.
So essentially it remains to be seen what actuallyhappened. But judging by the way they've played out the rest of their relationship, we'll probably never know. Meanwhile, I just want to know what Jennifer Aniston has to say about the whole thing...
