Let's face it, the rules just do not apply to Rihanna. In fashion (and otherwise), the singer does whatever she wants, convention be damned, and somehow manages to pull it off every single time. Case in point: Her red carpet look at last night's
Black Girls Rock! Awards.
RiRi attended the annual event, where she received the Rock Star Award, dressed in a look that we can only assume was partially inspired by Carrie Bradshaw (à la the New Year's Eve scene in the first SATC movie.) She wore an airy gingham button-down and white shorts (shorts! on the red carpet!) under a full-length fur coat by Miu Miu, plus bejeweled floral hair pieces and stacks upon stacks of fine diamond rings and layered necklaces.
You would think an eclectic grab bag of clothes and accessories piled on like this would come together like a toddler's dress-up session, but the Rihanna effect works its magic and instead we see something that feels irreverent and unstudied and effortlessly chic, which is everything a fashion girl can hope to achieve when styling an outfit.
