Melania Trump Doesn't Wear Fur Anymore

A fur-free FLOTUS.

Melania Trump is opting out of fur.
Once known for being a woman about town in a variety of fur coats and hats, the first lady is now a changed woman. "She does not wear fur," Stephanie Grisham, director of communications for FLOTUS, told CNN's Kate Bennett. It's unclear, however, when exactly she stopped wearing fur.

The confirmation comes after animal rights activist and Playboy cover star Pamela Anderson posted a tweet Wednesday that showed a letter she received from Melania. The note from the first lady thanked Anderson for sending a "beautiful eco-faux fur" from Russian faux-fur manufacturer Only Me. Melania's letter concluded, "I am grateful for your support and encouraging words; they mean a great deal. Together, we can empower more women to stand up for their beliefs."
Anderson sent the gift to FLOTUS in February, with a note that read, "Amid all the mania at the inauguration, you looked stunning in an outfit by Ralph Lauren — one of many fur-free designers. I am so happy that you chose not to wear fur! As first lady, you will help set style trends, and by remaining compassionate with your choices, you will warm the hearts of many."
In a statement to The Hollywood Reporter, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) noted that in recent years, Melania has shown her support for the animal rights organization that condemns companies for using animal furs in their clothing.

"Melania first attended a PETA fashion show years ago that featured one of her favorite designers, Marc Bouwer, a longtime PETA supporter who uses no fur, leather or exotic skins in his collections," said Dan Mathews, PETA senior vice president, in a statement. "More recently, PETA Honorary Director Pamela Anderson sent elegant Melania a stylish faux fur, as well as a video showing how animals are cruelly killed in the wild and on fur farms, so it's no surprise that she is now fur-free, following in the footsteps of so many fashion icons and First Ladies."

Since taking on the FLOTUS role, Melania has also been bringing back coat dresses.
